Privacy Policy
Kind Closure is built so we never need your personal data. This policy explains what that means in plain English.
Last updated: 16 June 2026
Our promise in one sentence
We do not collect, store, or have access to your digital inventory, account lists, passphrases, or encrypted legacy files — because that information never leaves your browser.
Who we are
Kind Closure (“we”, “us”, “our”) operates the website at kindclosure.co.uk, providing tools to help people plan their digital legacy and helping executors close online accounts after someone passes away.

Zero-knowledge — how it works
Planning your legacy: When you use the Legacy Planner, you enter account details and wishes entirely in your web browser. Our app encrypts that information using AES-256-GCM encryption (via your browser's Web Crypto API) and a passphrase only you choose. You download an encrypted .legacy file. We never receive the unencrypted data.
Executor Portal: When an executor uploads a .legacy file and enters the passphrase, decryption happens locally in their browser. We do not receive the file contents or passphrase.
Checklist & notes:The free Digital Footprint Checklist saves tick marks and notes in your browser's local storage only — not on our servers.
What we do NOT collect
- Your digital account inventory or final wishes
- Passwords, passphrases, or encryption keys
- Names, emails, or executor details from the Legacy Planner
- Uploaded .legacy files
- User accounts or login credentials (we have no account system)
What we may collect
Because we cannot see your legacy data, the information we might process is limited to:
- Payment information — If you pay to download your encrypted legacy file, payment is processed by our payment provider (e.g. Square). We receive confirmation that a payment was made, not your legacy data. We do not store card numbers.
- Basic website analytics — Anonymous, aggregated data such as page views to improve the service (no personal legacy content).
- Contact messages — If you use our contact form or email us directly, we keep your name, email, and message to respond to you.
- Server logs — Standard technical logs (IP address, browser type, pages visited) for security and debugging. These do not contain your legacy file contents.
Legal basis (UK GDPR)
Where we process personal data (such as payment records or support emails), we do so on the basis of:
- Contract — to provide the service you requested
- Legitimate interests — to operate and secure our website
- Legal obligation — where required by law (e.g. tax records for payments)
Your encrypted legacy data is not processed by us at all, so UK GDPR does not apply to that information — you remain the sole controller of it.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law, you have rights regarding any personal data we hold about you (such as payment or contact records), including the right to access, correct, or delete it. Contact us at privacy@kindclosure.co.uk.
You may also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
Cookies
We use minimal cookies — primarily essential cookies for the website to function. We do not use cookies to track your legacy planning content. Checklist progress is stored in your browser's local storage, not in cookies sent to us.
Children
Kind Closure is not intended for users under 18. Legacy planning requires adult decision-making capacity.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last revised. Continued use of the website after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
